Richfield Varsity Girls Basketball team is this years State Basketball Champions for our division. They all played very well and ended up beating Dietrich in the Idaho Center, in Boise. Which is funny because Dietrich is only about 15min away from Richfield, so we both had to travel 2 and a half hours to play each other.
I was really excited to see that Dietrich made it to the Championship game with us because I love the girls on that team, and they worked hard to get there. In the tournament they won two buzzer beater games, against Garden Valley and Carey (Who ended up in Third place). I also thought it was cool because my cousin Elli plays for Dietrich, and a lot of people in Richfield nicknamed her "Janet's TWIN". Which I think is a huge compliment because she is a little fireball, and she is so stinking cute too!!
Our Team was really fun to watch this year because all three of Coach Kent's girls are starters on the team and are fenominal player. Michelle the Senior, has been beating me up all year in practice because she drives to the basket with so much intensity that she is unstoppable. Not to mention she always would ram me right in to Mirium Rivis, who's screens feel like you are running right into a brick wall (a Boney brick wall). Tiny, his daughter who is a junior, handles the ball like it is just another part of her body and can shoot the lights out of the gym. In every one of their games up at State she scored over 20 points, and ended up winning the MVP award for the tournament. Shasha, his freshman, is very good for her age. I'm not surprised when she has two older sisters to play with all the time. She has a good shot and is a quick little thing on defense, she is everywhere. Lea was the other senior, and was the only one on the team taller that 5ft 7in, and she was a great rebounder for us. She was also a great comic relief. She always had something witty to say. I loved all of these girls, it was so fun to watch and get to know them and I am so proud of all of them for working so hard and getting that banner!! They really deserved it!!
Now I want to say that I think that Coach Kent is the greatest coach in the world. Not only did he give me a great experience to let me come in and be an assistant coach, but he put so much time and effort into training these girls to be ready for whatever they came up against. He really cares about the girls and he know the game better than anyone I have ever met.
This is a picture of Coach Kent's wife Belinda, oldest daughter Lacey and her kids, Whitney and I. These Women are angles to me. They made in possible for me to take Whitney to every game because they would watch her. I love them so much they are really what made it possible for me to be a part of this. And I have to mention that Lacey drove from Mountain home to all of the girls games this year.
