Every year the Telford's let everyone go out and dig up the potatoes after they have harvested them. They will often leave behind potato's where they could not get in with their big equipment. Like right next to a rock pile or on corners of the fields. So we go out with our shovels and did up the left overs. This year we got back to Richfield to get potatoes later than we should have because I think the whole town of Richfield had already picked over everything. We went through two different field and were not finding much of anything. Finally Bernave found a sweet spot out in the middle of the field where they had misses some rows on accident, I'm sure. The problem was that by the time we found that spot it was starting to get dark. So we all hustled and ended up filling four sack. Not including all the potatoes that Lance ate. He loved them dirt and all. Debbie said that was how Berny used to like his potatoes too. What can I say, they are born and bread Idaho boys.
I started out trying to keep Lance out of the dirt by putting him on a gunny sack. But there was no way he would stay on that thing not when there was so many things to put in his mouth. Then I tried working one handed and holding him. But I think Whitney was more help than me working one handed so I caved and let the little farm boy rolling the dirt.
He loved it!!Whitney loved it too, she drove the truck with Berny and she helped pick up the potatoes and put them in the bag. She also came up with the idea to fold them in her shirt and then carry a lot to the bag not just one at a time. Smart girl.

Dirty boy! Idaho Boy!

Lance eating potatoes

Whitney and Grandma Debbie

Papa and Dad trying to find potatoes. The sad thing was that we would find spots that had been dug up with frozen potatoes all over the ground. Some one had dug it up and only took the really big one and left everything else to get ruined by nights frost. What a waist!!

Mom and Whitney, Mom with one potato and Whitney with her shirt full!

Dad and Papa would dig and we would fallow and pick up what they dug then put it in the bag.

Papa (Bernave)

Whitney driving the truck with her dad. She would turn the wheel and Berny would push the gas. It was a bumpy ride.

The kid with the finished product. I am so glad that Bernave found those rows when he did or we would have ended up with maybe one and a half bags.
